Copycat Torchy’s Diablo Sauce

If you’re a fan of Torchy’s Tacos, you already know about their infamous Diablo Sauce—that deep red, smoky, spicy goodness that adds the perfect kick to everything it touches. This is my homemade version and I must say, it’s a very close replica to the original.

This Copycat Torchy’s Diablo Sauce is habaneros, onion, garlic and tomato sauce, and a little vinegar to balance the heat. It’s perfect for drizzling it on my Copycat Brushfire tacos, stirring it into mayo for a spicy spread, adding to some quest.

It keeps in the fridge for about a week–I keep a small container in my freezer because we use it in such small amounts.

Give it a try and let me know if your family can handle the heat—or if they’re reaching for the milk like mine was.

Copycat Torchy’s Diablo Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 2 small White onion, diced
  • 1 T. garlic
  • 15 Habanero peppers, stemmed
  • 1 1/2 C. Tomato sauce
  • 1/3 C. White wine vinegar
  • 1 t. kosher salt

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a cast iron skillet or pot over medium heat. Add onions an habaneros and cook until onions are caramelized and peppers have softened. I cooked about 40 minutes.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, remove from heat and cool.
  • Once the sauce has cooled down, blend in food processor until smooth.
  • Use caution when using, this one is HAWT!
